As a perfumer, one of my first exercises in my training was to experience an aroma and assign different properties to it, since aroma is not concrete. I learned how to experience the energy and spirit of aromas as well as plant materials by determining the color of the aroma, which is often different than the color of the flower or plant itself, how might that aroma taste? What does it sound like? If it was a song or piece of music, what would it be? What shape is it? What texture does it have? What movements it make? Etc. Taking these exercises into my magical practice has been transformative because by using scent you can change or amplify the energy of your magical workings.
